The only way to keep your business clear after the mountains of holiday trash from the end of the year is to organize and store it for collection. For some that means renting a roll-off container, but for most businesses the answer is getting the right front load dumpster.

The Trashco Inc. team is dedicated to making sure that everyone gets reliable trash collections, the right dumpster size, and a collection schedule that is as cheap as possible. That’s why this post will teach you about the different front load dumpster sizes that you can rent right now from us, and we’ll even throw in some tips for how to get the perfect balance of dumpster size and collection frequency.

We’ll cover:

  • What you need to know before renting a dumpster
  • 2-yard front load dumpsters
  • 4-yard front load dumpsters
  • 6-yard front load dumpsters
  • 8-yard front load dumpsters
  • 10-yard front load dumpsters
  • Take the guesswork out of your dumpster rentals

Let’s get started.

What you need to know before renting a dumpster

Before you even think about picking a front load dumpster, you need to know what your average trash flow is. If you already know how much trash you generate on average, go ahead and skip to our individual looks at dumpster sizes below!

Start by keeping track of how much waste you generate each week. Take into account how much of it consists of different types of waste (such as recyclable, biodegradable, hazardous, bulky, etc), and try to build up a picture of what the average month looks like. This should give you a rough idea of how much waste you’ll need to store and dispose of each week.

You should also consider adding an extra allowance for your trash generation (eg, 10% extra) due to seasonal and random fluctuations. It’s not worth saving a few extra bucks just to be left with an overflowing dumpster in the height of summer that makes your employees sick from the smell.

Once you have a figure, it’s time to decide how you’re going to split between dumpster size and collection frequency. For example, if you generate roughly 2,400 lbs of recyclable trash per month, you could rent a single 10-yard front load dumpster and have it emptied monthly, or two 6-yard dumpsters emptied every two weeks. We’ll get into the specifics of what each size of dumpster can hold below, but for now keep that collection frequency in mind, as it will also depend on factors like how easy it is to access or move your dumpsters, and how quickly your waste needs to be disposed of.

Now let’s get into the specifics!

2-yard front load dumpsters

The 2-yard front load dumpster is the smallest we here at Trashco Inc. offer, and it’s perfect for small businesses that need a reliable way to manage their waste.

These hold roughly 400 lbs (20 bags) of garbage, and we recommend companies with 25 employees or less use these for most of their needs. This includes churches, small retail stores, restaurants, and residences such as small apartment blocks.

Larger businesses (or ones with more waste) should also consider 2-yard dumpsters as a supplement to a larger size. You could use it to store only one type of waste, or reserve it for things like food waste and arrange for more frequent collections. That way you can save on the higher cost of larger units while keeping your business clean and safe, instead of letting waste food rot on-site.

4-yard front load dumpsters

4-yard front load dumpsters can hold roughly double that of 2-yard units, maxing out at around 800 lbs (40 bags) of garbage. These are great for businesses with up to 50 employees, including larger retail stores, schools and universities, food courts, large movie theaters, and so on.

Just like 2-yard dumpsters, 4-yard front load dumpsters are also a great addition to a larger unit for bigger companies that generate more waste. If you’re planning to do this then, once again, try to use the 4-yard dumpster to store a single type of waste, particularly if it creates bad smells, as the front load dumpster’s door should contain most of the odor.

6-yard front load dumpsters

6-yard front load dumpsters are a new addition to Trashco Inc.’s offerings, letting us serve the needs of our customers even better than before. These units hold roughly 1,200 lbs (60 bags) of garbage and are perfect for companies with up to 100 employees, such as hotels and larger office buildings.

The 6-yard front load dumpster is our most flexible offering, as it can be used by a smaller business that wants to have less frequent waste collections or a larger business that needs to have its waste collected more often.

If you’re considering this to save money with less frequent collections we’d recommend filling it with waste that isn’t going to decompose much while it’s sitting there. Nobody on your team wants to be around food waste that’s been rotting for a month, even if it’s fully contained.

8-yard front load dumpsters

8-yard front load dumpsters are the next biggest unit, and can hold roughly 1,800 lbs (80 bags) of garbage. This makes them ideal for grocery stores, sports stadiums, and other large businesses with up to 500 employees.

At this point we’re getting into the big leagues of dumpsters. 8-yard front load dumpsters will serve the needs of the majority of businesses who are looking for waste management solutions, but remember that it might be cheaper to get a 6-yard with more frequent collections if your waste flow predictions allow for that.

We’ll talk more about how to make the best decision of unit size versus frequency at the end of this post, but for now let’s finish up with the front load dumpster size guide.

10-yard front load dumpsters

10-yard front load dumpsters are the largest that Trashco Inc. (or pretty much any other company) offers. These hold up to 2,400 lbs (100 bags) of garbage and are ideal for businesses with more than 500 employees or those that generate a lot of waste. This includes retail complexes, construction sites, logistics warehouses, and so on.

Alternatively, if your business only generates waste that won’t decompose in the short term, you could rent a 10-yard dumpster and have very few collections per year. If you have the floor space and don’t mind your trash hanging around in the dumpster, such infrequent collections could end up saving you money.
