Roll-Off Containers for Construction Sites: Why They Are Essential for Your Project

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

Global waste is feared to skyrocket to 3.4 billion tonnes by 2050, according to a 2018 report by the World Bank. It’s a staggering number, and it’s even more worrying to think about the environmental impact of all of that waste. We all need to do our part to keep the earth clean!

But how does that help you?

Well, think about the amount of waste your construction projects generate. Some of it will go on to be reused in future projects and save money on new materials, but that still leaves you with a huge amount of waste that you’ve got to do something with - you can’t just leave it scattered around the site.

You need a roll-off container.

Not convinced? Don’t know what a roll-off container is? Well, let us tell you…

Construction sites generate a lot of waste, so it’s only natural that you need somewhere to put all of it. If you have a solid waste management plan you know that this should be something that lets you pool all of your waste into one location for easy disposal.

That’s where roll-off containers come in.

These containers provide a central location for all of your construction waste to be thrown into, keeping your site today and making it as easy as pie for our trucks to empty them at regular intervals. There’s no need to waste time with trips to the local dump! Everyone can get on with what they need to do, throw away the waste generated by the job, and then get right back to work.

Front load dumpsters just don’t cut it when it comes to the scale of waste generated at construction sites - roll-off containers (generally) handle much larger loads while still allowing easy collection and disposal from your site. From general construction debris to furniture and appliances, as long as it’s waste that falls under Laredo’s (or your local area’s) waste disposal guidelines you can get rid of it all with room to spare.

Plus you don’t have to worry about sorting your waste with a roll-off container. Here at Trashco Inc. we’re dedicated to cleaning up Laredo and the surrounding areas, so it’s our pleasure to take your waste, organize it, and recycle everything we can to make sure that we’re all doing our part for the environment.

Roll-off container specifications

Before getting into the specifications of the roll-off containers we offer, let’s go over a few core facts for the use of them in general.

First, you’ll need to have a hard surface to put the container on once we drop it off. Dirt won’t work, as there’s a risk of the container sinking into the ground (particularly after rain), so you’ll need to have a hard material to support the container. Whether that’s asphalt, concrete, or even a sheet of plywood, there shouldn’t be an issue finding a spot to safely put it down.

We mentioned this earlier, but you’ll also need to check your local guidelines for waste disposal to make sure that you aren’t putting disallowed items into the container. Most of this is pretty self-evident but it’s always worth double checking to avoid incurring extra fees or having your waste load rejected for collection in extreme cases. Similar charges may apply if you overfill your container(s).

If you aren’t sure what types of waste you can and can’t dispose of in a roll-off container, reach out to our friendly team of experts who are more than happy to tell you everything you need to know and help you find the perfect waste management solution for your company.

Finally, remember that the sizes of these containers are in cubic yards and that a cubic yard can roughly store 5 or 6 13-gallon trash bags.

With that out of the way, we offer two sizes of roll-off containers:

  • 15 yard

  • 30 yard

15 yard roll-off container

15 yard roll-off containers hold up to 6 pickup loads of waste, making them ideal for smaller construction projects, a house clean-out, small deck demolitions, heavy materials, remodels, and so on. As with all of our other rentals, our 15 yard roll-off rentals come with delivery and pickup scheduling, so you don’t even have to worry about emptying the container yourself. Simply sling in your trash as you work, and we’ll handle the rest!

30 yard roll-off container

30 yard roll-off containers are designed for much larger jobs and projects. They hold roughly 14 pickup loads of waste, so they’re perfect to use for larger construction projects, office renovations, large home renovations, and more. Since these are more commonly utilized than the 15 yard variant, if you’ve seen a roll-off container before, this is probably the one that you’re thinking about.

Remember to reach out to our friendly team of experts if you’re unsure as to which size container would suit your needs, or if you need some advice on how frequent your pickups should be. We’re happy to help!
